This succulent flowers once a year and lasts for a few weeks before slowly withering. While fresh, it is vibrant and delicate with beautiful pink, purple and orange petals.
These Ipheion uniflorum, or spring starflowers, are one of my favourites. They bloom each year in a beautiful sunny part of the garden. I wanted to capture their fleeting nature (they are soon gone, what with the wind and rain in the Blue Mountains) so I used a shallow depth of field and focused on the centre of the flower
